One person was arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of a Dalit girl, which forced her father to commit suicide.

Hisar police chief B. Satheesh Balan said on Sunday that the arrested had revealed the names of 11 others involved in the case. They would be arrested soon.

The incident had angered residents of Dabra village who on Saturday staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of all the accused. It was only after assurances by Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Aggarwal and Mr. Balan did the protesters allow the body of the girl’s father to be taken for post-mortem. The body was cremated at his native village on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Indian National Lok Dal leader Ajay Singh Chautala has demanded the immediate arrest of all the remaining accused.

The girl was allegedly raped by a group of youths who also threatened to make public her objectionable pictures, following which her father committed suicide on September 18. A case was registered under Sections 376 and 306 of the Indian Penal Code.
