One person was arrested by the police here on Sunday for allegedly attacking the headmaster and ransacking the premises of Jadavpur Vidyapith High School in the south of the city.

The 48-year-old guardian has been identified as a supporter of Trinamool Congress who barged into the school premises with local leaders of the party and allegedly assaulted the headmaster, Rajen Mondal, on Saturday.

TV footage

A local television channel had shown footage of Tapan Dasgupta, councillor of the ward number 25 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, entering the school with supporters and having altercations with the school authorities.

Some teachers and students along with the headmaster were injured in the incident.

Locals, along with few guardians who entered the school, were demanding admission of their wards in class V.

As per the directive of the State's School Education department, students are admitted through a lottery system.
