Now it is Bharti vs Delhi women’s panel

January 25, 2014 03:32 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:00 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti on Friday gave his opponents fresh ammunition when he skipped a hearing at the Delhi Commission for Women and instead sent his lawyer, who had a spat with chairperson Barkha Singh in full glare of TV cameras and reporters.

The Minister at that time was attending an international kite festival in the city.

According to the DCW, it did not allow Mr. Bharti’s lawyer to represent him as its rules don’t allow any representative to attend the hearing.

“In case Mr. Bharti was unable to come, he should have sent notice, informing us of the same,” Ms. Singh said.

The Aam Aadmi Party, however, defended Mr. Bharti. Education Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters: “It is up to Mr. Bharti when he wants to appear before the commission.”

The ruckus took place even as the AAP released a video in which three Delhi policemen are seen beating a man. The police immediately suspended the trio.
