India is not happy with Pakistan’s probe into the Mumbai terror attacks, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said here on Thursday.
“Well, we are not satisfied with the 26/11 probe. We sincerely hope that the government of Pakistan will take effective measures, which will bring to book all perpetrators of 26/11,” he said at a press meet.
Confidence-building measures
As for the slow pace of confidence-building measures such as facilitating trade and people’s movement across the Line of Control, Dr. Singh said: “I have outlined them, what needs to be done in my speech yesterday. And I have also said that these CBMs should move further ahead, which requires the cooperation of the people and the government of Pakistan. We will be happy to discuss all these issues with Pakistan, and I sincerely hope that Pakistan will create an atmosphere in which negotiations can lead to a fruitful result.”
Regrets OIC role
Dr. Singh regretted the appointment of an envoy by Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) for Kashmir.
“We regret that the OIC has got into this issue. We have lodged a protest with the OIC. We want peaceful resolution of all problems. And we are not acting under anybody’s pressure and are not going to be induced to act under the pressure of anybody. We say that it is in our interest and in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir — and in the interest of Pakistan too — to make the relations between the two countries what it should be.”
A reality and a challenge
Referring to the Maoist violence, the Prime Minister said the Maoist threat was a reality as well as a challenge. “We are dealing with it effectively. In some areas, there is alienation which needs to be addressed.”
