Kribhco officials said they had concluded investigations last year into alleged payoffs by the Norwegian firm Yara, and found no evidence of wrongdoing. Kribhco Managing Director B.D. Sinha told The Hindu “not a penny was transacted.”

“If payments were made to a third party,” Mr. Sinha said, “let them name them and let them investigate the source and the banking channels. It is possible that Yara has siphoned off funds and is claiming it has made payoffs.” “No third party’’ was involved, adding that the project “never took off due to recession and such factors,” he said.

A highly placed CBI official told The Hindu it was unaware of the Norwegian case, but would take it up “as and when the government refers it to us.”
