The two infants, Abhigyan and Aishwarya, brought here from Norway after a prolonged custody battle, are again in the midst of a row with their mother and paternal grandfather lodging complaints against each other with the police.
Demanding security, Ajay Bhattacharya, the paternal grandfather of the children lodged a FIR with the Kulti police station in Burdwan district on Friday alleging that the children’s mother Sagarika Bhattacharya barged into their house with outsiders and threatened them.
Ms. Sagarika had earlier lodged a FIR against Ajay Bhattacharya, her father-in-law, on Thursday, at the same police station alleging that she was prevented from meeting her children.
Ms. Sagarika said that she last met her children on April 25 at a relative’s house at Sinthe in the suburbs of Kolkata.
Assistant Commissioner of Durgapur-Asansol Police Commissionerate Anjali Ahuja said “We have received complaints from both sides. As it is a family matter we are trying to talk to both of them and asking them to solve the matter amicably.”
The children were taken away from their parents, Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya by Norway’s Child Welfare Service in May last year on grounds of ‘emotional disconnect’.
After being kept in foster care for almost a year by the authorities in Norway, the two children arrived in Delhi on April 24, after a Norwegian court, a day earlier, gave their custody to their uncle Arunabhas Bhattacharya.

The cause of the this problem is the Norwegian CWS. They have use a marital conflict to destroy this family. There is no sense in giving custody to the uncle. That was only a face-saving measure from the Norwegians who apparently don't like to admit mistakes. Indian laws should prevail in India, and an out of court custody settlement between the parents should decide on the children's custody.
This, exclusively private saga, received national attention. Even the Prime Minister was involved in favor of the custody of stranded kids.At no point the persons pleading for returning the custody, including Foreign Minister,Opposition leaders and scores of high officials flying to Norway ,ever cared to go at the root of the problem necessiating Stavanger Child Welfare to withdraw kids from parents and place them at the foster home. None were concerned with the best welfare of kids. Secrecy clause precluded CWS openly pronouncing it.However, latent facts suspected mother's schizophrenia causing frequent hysterical fits and parents personal quarreling disturbed kids emotionally, psychologically, causing their stunted growth. One of the kids has developed personality disorder and the Norway CWS desired to ensure that adequate medical care facilities exist in Kolkatta, before handing them back.Lack of proper safeguard against such odds finds poor kids victim of parental infighting .
How is the affairs of the concerned family of such prominent national
importance that major dailies and news channels have been covering it nonchalantly for months now? Since the kids have returned, the matter
should be put to rest rather than making the normal family squiblings
with-in a family a national issue just to cater to our own instinctive
and voyeuristic desires to sneak-peak into others lives! This is
ridiculous.
Shameful conduct by the families. As a nation, we feel embarrassed because the Norwegian
Child Welfare Services were right all along.
Makes me wonder if the kids were better off with their foster parents in Norway!
Now what do all the bleeding hearts have to say? This woman is mentally
unsuitable to raise children. Those who were going left right and center
against Norway should now apologize.
