Nod for elevation of Lt. Gen. Suhag

Lieutenant General Dalbir Singh Suhag will be the Chief of the Army Staff on General Bikram Singh’s retirement on July 31.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved the recommendation of the Defence Ministry for the appointment, a day after its receipt, sources said.

The formal announce-ment is expected in a couple of days.

Lt. Gen. Suhag, 59, a Gurkha officer, who participated in the Indian Peace Keeping Force operation in Sri Lanka in 1987, is now the Vice-Chief and senior-most Lieutenant General. He will have a 30-month tenure.
