The 2G spectrum allocation issue (and the subsequent action against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leaders — former Telecom Minister A. Raja and Rajya Sabha MP and DMK president and Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi's daughter M.K.Kanimozhi) has not caused any strain in the Congress–DMK ties, Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said here on Saturday.
The 2G case was monitored by the Supreme Court, and various agencies were involved in the investigation. “Hence, there is no chance of any rift in the Congress-DMK alliance,” she explained.
Talking to presspersons after calling on Mr.Karunanidhi, she said it was a courtesy call and she was sure the Democratic Progressive Alliance led by DMK would record a phenomenal victory and Mr.Karunanidhi would don the mantle of Chief Minister for the sixth time.
On an opinion poll that the DMK alliance would return to power, Ms. Natarajan said: “Generally we do not take such polls seriously because they are just sample surveys.” It was the electioneering and what the people think on the day of voting that would determine the results.
It was obvious that the DPA had overwhelming support in the State and that was why the opposition was keeping quiet.
Asked about the rumblings in the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress, she said an inquiry was in progress. A report in this regard would be submitted to All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi who would take the final call on this issue.
Similarly, it was for the high command to decide on the clamour for replacement of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V.Thangkabalu, she said.
On the suspension of 19 Congress leaders from the party by the TNCC chief, she said an inquiry had been going on in this regard also and the final decision would be taken only by the high command.
