In the wake of the controversy generated by the remarks of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on the Reddy brothers, the BJP said on Sunday there was no rift over the issue in the party.

Asked about the reported differences between Ms. Swaraj and some senior party leaders, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman said: “There are no differences within.”

Ms. Swaraj had said last week that it was the decision of Arun Jaitley, B.S. Yeddyurappa, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar to induct mining magnates Janardhan and Karunakar Reddy into the Karnataka Cabinet.

‘Debate unnecessary'

BJP president Nitin Gadkari issued a statement on Saturday saying that any debate on the choice of Karnataka Ministers in the media was “totally unnecessary.”

His statement came after the former BJP president, Rajnath Singh, and Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa owned responsibility for inducting the Reddy brothers into the State cabinet, from which Ms. Swaraj had distanced herself.
