The expelled leader, Amar Singh, on Saturday ruled out his return to the Samajwadi Party, while heaping praises on Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on his blog.
Mr. Amar Singh is an unattached member in the Rajya Sabha.
Referring to speculation that some people in the SP wanted Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan to mediate in the process of his possible return to the party, Mr. Amar Singh said it was not possible.
He wrote on his blog: “Just as Ms. Jaya Bachchan has ruled out the possibility of her joining the Congress, I cannot return to the Samajwadi Party.”
Mr. Singh said he had nothing to do with Ms. Bachchan's reply, at a press conference, that she would not accept an offer to join the Congress, if it were made. In fact, he said, at an earlier interview Ms. Bachchan said she would have no problem if Mr. Amar Singh — a family friend — joined the Congress.
“I will not take any decision for the future without conferring with my colleagues,” Mr. Singh wrote, adding he had not had any talks with the Congress either formally or informally.
He said that in the vacuum that was created in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh “when dynastic politics took over,” youth got impressed with Mr. Rahul Gandhi's honesty and he did have a natural advantage over others because of his Nehru-Gandhi heritage.
