New Delhi on Wednesday witnessed yet another hot start to the day with the minimum temperature three notches above average. The Met Department has forecast the day temperature to be around 43 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature Wednesday settled at 30.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above average, for this time of the season. The minimum Tuesday touched the highest in the past five years at 32 degrees Celsius.

“The sky will mainly be clear but will turn partially cloudy towards the evening. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 43 degrees Celsius,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

According to the IMD official, the extreme weather is a result of the heat wave sweeping over north India.

The soaring mercury has left the capital’s residents sweating and desperately yearning for respite from the blistering heat.

“It has been unusually hot this summer and long power cuts during the day are adding to the misery. I hope the monsoon comes on time,” said Sangeeta Singh, a software professional.
