Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa reiterated that there was no question of quitting from his post and the party leadership in Delhi and the BJP MLAs in the State were backing him.
The Chief Minister, who landed here on Wednesday night with excerpts of the Lokayukta report, presented them to party president Nitin Gadkari. He was joined by State advocate general and the additional advocate general who explained the legal angle to party leaders.
About reports that the BJP leadership was planning to replace him, Mr. Yeddyurappa told journalists that it was just a presumption by the media. The State government was yet to go through the report fully. After meeting the party seniors he would return on Thursday to Bangalore, where he would chair a Cabinet meeting to discuss the report.
Karnataka special representative here and former Union Minister V.S. Dhananjay Kumar said the CM came on his own to Delhi and was not summoned by the leadership. “It is his duty to explain the position when such a major development takes place.”
He also dismissed as mere media speculation that the party leadership was considering names of top State BJP leaders as a replacement for Mr. Yeddyurappa.
“There is no such proposal as the party leadership is yet to go through the report. How they will react even before studying the report.”
