The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of the former Haryana DGP, S.P.S. Rathore, to Friday, denying him any immediate relief.
Mr. Rathore, 68 who is now lodged in the Burail jail, moved the High Court with a review petition, seeking bail on medical grounds, on Wednesday, a day after a sessions court rejected his appeal against his conviction in the case of molestation of a young tennis player and enhanced his jail term to 18 months from six months.
His lawyer-wife Abha Rathore pleaded with the judge to hear the case, arguing that he was “facing severe health problems.” But the judge told her that she should move a separate application, and that there was no need for any urgent hearing.
She also initiated the process for a revised petition against Tuesday's verdict the sentence in the court of Justice S.S. Saron, contending that the appellate court had passed the order “under media pressure.”
The High Court will close on May 29 for one-month summer vacation, and this may make it tough for Rathore to get any early relief.
