Senior officers and government sources have denied that Nihal Tanna, who was arrested by a special police team for alleged cheating and forgery, has any connection with the case of murder of crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.
“He is not related. He was not arrested in that connection,” a top government official told The Hindu.
Tanna was arrested recently under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 170 (personating a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
Unconfirmed reports said that he had met Dey two days before his murder.
