The Indian High Commission in Islamabad has replied to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over the visit of journalist V.P. Vaidik to Pakistan, The Hindu has learnt.

According to sources, the High Commission claimed it had no knowledge of Mr. Vaidik’s travel plans after he attended a track-II meeting of parliamentarians and journalists in Islamabad on June 14-16. The meeting was organised by think tank, The Regional Peace Institute.

In an interview, however, Mr. Vaidik claimed he had paid for his own trip to Pakistan. Sources said the High Commission’s report was received on Tuesday evening by the Ministry.

Ms. Swaraj had asked the High Commission to file the report after facing a furore in Parliament for two days over Mr. Vaidik’s self-publicised meeting with Mr. Saeed.
