The Uttar Pradesh police are yet to make any headway in the murder of Akhil Gupta, a witness in the rape case against Asaram Bapu.

Gupta was shot dead on Sunday night while he was returning home from his dairy shop by unidentified assailants. Gupta had earlier worked at the Ahmedabad ashram of the godman as his cook and personal aide, before Asaram Bapu was sent to judicial custody in 2013 in connection with the rape case.

He was a witness in the case and had recorded his statement in a Gandhinagar court.

Senior Superintendent of Police Hari Narayan Singh told the media that three teams had been formed to crack the case.
