The Delhi police on Friday told the special court hearing the cash-for-vote scam case that it had no evidence to show that Samajwadi Party leader Rewati Raman Singh was part of the alleged conspiracy. “Rewati Raman Singh spoke with Ashok Argal. But there is nothing to show that he is part of the conspiracy. We have examined the Parliamentary Enquiry Committee report, video and audio footage, and statements made before the police but no role of Rewati Raman Singh could be made out, which is why we have not charge-sheeted him,” senior public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan told special judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal.
Meanwhile, the former BJP MP, Faggan Singh Kulaste, arguing on his bail application, told the court that the “beneficiaries” of the scam were still running the government.
“They [Delhi police] have left out Rewati Raman Singh, they have left out the man in yellow shirt [who delivered Rs.1 crore cash along with accused Sanjeev Saxena on July 22, 2008], and have certainly left out the beneficiaries of the case,” Mr. Kulaste's counsel said, adding “these beneficiaries are still running the government.”
Meanwhile, Ms. Sehgal issued summons to BJP MP Argal, named as accused in the supplementary charge sheet, to appear before the court on November 3.
The court took cognisance of the charge sheet after Mr. Mohan submitted that the letter sanctioning prosecution of Mr. Argal was bona fide.
The court also allowed Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh's plea requesting that his wife be permitted to remain by his side as his attendant, while he underwent treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
Ms. Sehgal had sought the opinion of AIIMS medical superintendent D.K. Sharma, who told the court on Friday that in view of his medical condition, Mr. Singh, who is in judicial custody, needed an attendant.
“In view of the statement of Dr. D.K. Sharma, MS, AIIMS, Pankaja Singh, wife of the accused, Amar Singh, is permitted to remain as home attendant to the accused in hospital till his discharge,” the judge said.
