The Maharashtra government on Friday refuted suggestions of any ‘delay’ in taking action against Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia for his anti-Muslim speech delivered at a rally in the State’s Nanded district last month.
Commenting on the incident, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said there was “no directive as yet from the Centre regarding Dr. Togadia’s arrest.”
The VHP leader had launched into an anti-Muslim invective at a rally staged by a fringe Hindu radical group in the township of Bhokar.
“The FIR has been duly lodged and investigations are being carried out. His [Dr. Togadia’s] statements are being studied… If he is found guilty of disrupting harmony between two communities, he will certainly be apprehended,” Mr. Chavan said, on the sidelines of a function here.
