No deactivation if it’s Rs. 20: TRAI

February 23, 2013 01:52 am | Updated 01:52 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said inactive pre-paid mobile phone connections cannot be deactivated if they have a minimum balance of Rs. 20 in their account and the time for considering ‘inactive’ will be 90 days.

Announcing an amendment to a regulation for protecting consumers, the TRAI said: “There shall be no de-activation if the balance… is Rs 20 or more. The mobile connections of prepaid consumers shall not be deactivated for any period of non-usage less than 90 days.”

Under the amended regulations, an operator will have to provide facility for reactivating numbers by paying a reasonable amount.
