BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Sunday said the BJP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir do not have common views on the controversial Article 370, and a coalition government was formed for providing a stable government.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a talk on “Current Socio-Political Situation in Jammu and Kashmir” here, Mr. Madhav said: “I assure you that there is nothing in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) that can be described as compromise by us. It is a CMP for good governance and to give development-oriented stable government.”

The BJP-PDP government in the Valley is an alliance for governance, not an ideological or political alliance, he said. .

“We had a mandate which needed to be respected. Also, we had a constitutional obligation to give a stable government in the State. We have tried to fulfil that constitutional obligation by working out the CMP,” hesaid.

The party has not compromised its political stand on the controversial Article 370, which grants special status to the State.
