Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday ruled out the involvement of naxalites in the recent carnage in Bihar’s Khagaria district where 16 villagers were shot dead.
The information collected by the probe team suggested that the incident had direct links with a war of attrition between two groups of anti-socials rather than a handiwork of the banned CPI (Maoist), Mr. Kumar told reporters.
These groups were active in the area for a long time, he said, adding that the anti-socials committed the crime to grab the land being cultivated by the victims.
“We are firm to bring all the culprits to justice,” the Chief Minister said.
He said the state government had decided to provide full security to the bereaved families and a police post was being set up at the carnage-site to prevent such incidents.
He said the state government had already suspended the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Khagaria) for reaching the spot “late“.
He was talking to reporters before leaving for New Delhi to participate in a meeting convened by prime minister on the Ganga River Basin Authority (GRBA).
