At least nine persons, including three policemen and five BSNL employees, were injured when heavily-armed militants launched two attacks on police, fired rifle grenades at a security camp and hurled a grenade in the telecom office in Sopore town of North Kashmir on Monday.
All the four attacks took place within a span of two hours this morning, a police spokesman said.
Five BSNL employees and a cart puller were injured when militants lobbed a grenade at the BSNL office at Sopore, 55 km from here, around 11 am. All the injured were hospitalised, he said.
Earlier, two policemen were injured when heavily-armed ultras attacked a police party in the central area of the town around 10.40 am.
The injured policemen were rushed to S. K. Institute of medical sciences here.
Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the militants, but no one was arrested.
Another policeman was injured when militants opened fire on personnel of special operations group (SOG) of local police engaged in a search and cordon operation in Bhagat Mohalla area around 9.50 am. An exchange of fire between the two sides took place and the militants fled.
In another incident, militants fired three rifle grenades at the camp of 22 Rashtriya Rifles here, the spokesman said, adding no one was injured in the attack.
