An Indian Air Force helicopter crashed soon after taking off from an airport here on Tuesday, injuring seven IAF personnel and two civil engineers.

A Court of Inquiry has been ordered into the crash, which occurred, probably owing to a snag, at the IAF station at Satwari at 9.15 a.m. The Mi-26 took off from the technical airport on a sortie to Reasi and crashed within minutes, Defence spokesman Lt. Col. Biplav Nath said.

Sources in the IAF said the helicopter was ferrying heavy machinery of Konkan Railways for laying a track in Reasi when the accident occurred.
