In connection with the ongoing probe into the terror funding case in the Kashmir Valley, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday conducted raids at the office and residence of a senior member of the legal cell of Hurriyat Conference, who is also a close aide of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
“The NIA is investigating his role as courier as he is suspected to be involved in routing funds to the separatist leaders from Pakistan- based handlers,” the spokesperson said.
“The NIA conducted searches on Sunday at the residence and office of Devinder Singh Behal, chairman, Jammu Kashmir Social Peace Forum, a constituent of the All Party Hurriyat Conference,” he said.
The NIA also issued summons to Naseem, the second son of Mr. Geelani, to appear before it on Wednesday. His elder son Nayeem has been summoned for Monday.
During searches, the NIA team recovered four mobile phones, one Tablet, other electronic devices, incriminating documents, financial papers and some other articles, said the spokesperson.
His foreign trips have come under the lens and he will be questioned soon, the officials said.
This is the second raid in Jammu in connection with the terror funding case. Earlier, the agency had raided a businessman.
Earlier, the NIA had issued summons to Mr. Geelani’s elder son Mr. Nayeem, asking him to appear before it for questioning on July 31 in connection with its probe in the terror funding case which names Pakistan-based chief of Jamaat-ul-Dawah, the front of another proscribed outfit Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT), Hafiz Saeed, as an accused.
The NIA has also named separatist organisations such as the Hurriyat Conference (factions led by Mr. Geelani and Mirwaiz Farooq), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and all-woman outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat in its FIR.
The NIA had registered a case on May 30 against the separatist and secessionist leaders, including members of the Hurriyat Conference, who have been acting in connivance with active militants of the HM, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, LeT, other outfits and gangs.
