An investigation team of the National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday inspected the scene of crime in Nighasan where a teenaged girl was allegedly murdered inside the premises of a police station and examined the records.

The two-member team comprising IPS officers P. S. Rao and Anil Sharma, which arrived here Tuesday morning, visited the 14-year-old girl’s house and recorded statements of the victim’s mother and brother, who was reportedly a witness to the incident, officials said.

The Commission, taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, had on Monday decided to send its own team for an on-the-spot inquiry into the incident.

The Commission has also sought a detailed report from Director General Police of Uttar Pradesh on the matter within four weeks.

The body was found hanging from a tree inside the premises of Nighasan Police Station. The victim’s mother in her complaint had alleged that her daughter was raped and murdered.

The fresh post mortem of the girl on Monday revealed she was murdered but ruled out rape.

After the fresh revelation Lakhimpur SP D. K. Rai was removed and Amit Chandra, a PAC Commandant in Lucknow, has been posted in his place.
