The Central Bureau of Investigation plans to summon several non-governmental organisations and individuals associated with Home Ministry Under Secretary Anand Joshi, who was arrested for issuing notices arbitrarily to NGOs under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) allegedly for bribes.
On Tuesday, the CBI visited Mr. Joshi’s office in the MHA to examine the files associated with him.
“We have sought custody of all the related files for scrutiny. Mr. Joshi, who is currently in our custody, will be confronted with the findings,” said a CBI official.
Mr. Joshi had gone underground after the CBI registered the case against him and conducted searches at his Ghaziabad residence.
The agency traced him to Tilak Nagar in West Delhi on Sunday and arrested him as he was “not cooperating” in the investigation.
He did not turn up despite summons. On Monday, a city court granted to the CBI his five-day custody.
In the court, the agency submitted that files related to several NGOs missing from the MHA were found at Mr. Joshi’s residence.
It identified some of the organisations — All India Primary Teachers Federation, Snehalya Charitable Trust, Care India and Indian HIV/AIDS Alliance.
Teesta Setalvad filesMr. Joshi is also being questioned in connection with the disappearance of files related to social activist Teesta Setalvad’s organisation Sabrang Trust, whose FCRA licence was suspended for alleged violations. The suspension order expired on March 9.
