The T.T.V. Dhinakaran faction of the AIADMK, during the Election Commission’s hearing in the party symbol dispute on Wednesday, argued that only the affidavits filed as per the electoral body’s March 22 order should be taken into account for deciding on the issue.

The next hearing is on November 6.

The Commission had issued notices on September 21, asking the parties to the dispute to submit fresh evidence in the form of affidavits, if any, by September 29.

Deadline extension

On March 22, the EC had issued an order freezing the AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol for the R.K. Nagar by-election, and instructed the rival factions to submit proof of support by April 17. On their request, the deadline was extended till June 16.

Senior advocate Vijay Hansaria, appearing for Mr. Dhinakaran, submitted before the court that there were four claimants to the party. While his arguments have now concluded, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been given two hours for his submissions on the next date of the hearing.

Former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi and senior advocates C.S. Vaidyanathan, K.V. Vishwanathan, Guru Krishna Kumar and P.H. Manoj Pandian are appearing for the OPS-EPS combine.
