Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Monday that he sincerely believed a new sun was rising on the country's east, and Kolkata could again regain its glory as India's window to Asia.

He was speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Indian Institute of Management at Joka here.

If efforts to change the system of governance to eliminate corruption succeeded, the future augured well for the country. “It also augurs well for West Bengal and Kolkata,” he said in the presence of Governor M.K. Narayanan and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Ms. Banerjee said managers were the country's future.
