New police chief: George makes way for Rajendran

October 10, 2015 04:34 am | Updated 04:34 am IST - CHENNAI:

The State government late on Friday transferred the city Commissioner of Police, S. George, and posted him as Additional Director-General of Police (Prisons). The current Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), T.K. Rajendran, will be the city Police Commissioner.

A 1984-batch IPS officer, Mr. George headed the Chennai Police for three years. Besides handling potential conflicting situations such as the advocate protests and student clashes, he was instrumental in the strategic deployment of manpower and vehicles that enhanced the visibility of police in the city.

With night patrolling and vehicle-checks getting intensified, crimes like dacoity or robbery came under control. The response time of the police on call to a scene of disturbance came down to three or four minutes.
