Nearly half fail in Bihar Class X Board exam

The much-awaited Bihar Class X Board examination results were declared on Thursday with nearly half of the students failing to pass. Earlier, in the Intermediate Class XII Board examination, only 35% students passed and the topper in the Humanities stream made headlines for not being able to answer even basic questions pertaining to his subjects — he was later sent to jail for providing his age incorrectly.

“In the Xth Board examination, 50.12% students have passed while 49.68% have failed…but, this year’s result has 3.1% more pass percentage than last year,” said Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) chairman Anand Kishor. Mr. Kishor also said that the low pass percentage may have been low due to strict measures to stop cheating and other malpractices in the exam.

A total of 17,40,000 students appeared in BSEB’s Class X Board exam this year, of whom 8,63,000 students have been declared passed.
