Even as Parliament debated the “failure” of the government to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks in 100 days, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah on Thursday said that in its first six months in power, the NDA initiated “historic measures” that pulled the country out of a policy paralysis, revived the economy and made life easier for people. The Narendra Modi government completed six months in office on November 26.
Hitting out at the Congress, the BJP chief said that “a party that ruled for 60 years, was corrupt and during whose rule thousands of people were kept in poverty, is now questioning our six months’ record.”
He said the people had given a ‘fitting reply’ to the Congress for its ‘misrule’ in the Lok Sabha elections followed by Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly polls, which the party lost.
“Faced with the prospect of a similar defeat in the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand polls, the Congress is unable to see the good work of the Narendra Modi government,” Mr. Shah said in a statement.
He said the government had taken several steps towards fulfilling electoral promises, that included constituting a SIT on black money, reining in inflation, setting up skill development ministry for capacity building of youth, checking corruption and cleaning up the Ganga.
The Swachch Bharat (Clean India) campaign, Jan Dhan Yojna, and ‘Make in India’ concept to create jobs for youth not “only made life easier for people but also laid the foundation for building a strong India.” Also, the government took a firm stand in World Trade Organisation negotiations to protect the interests of farmers and ensure India’s food security, Mr. Shah said.
With his foreign policy, Mr. Modi has ‘enhanced India’s image abroad.’
His visits to the U.S., Japan and Australia were a ‘huge success.’ Under Mr. Modi’s leadership, the governance style had changed, he claimed.
