The Congress on Monday said the Modi government had converted the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) into a NPA (non-performing asset) and its “Make in India” lion was no longer roaring — it is now “whimpering.”

“The Modi government has mastered art of creating economic disasters,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

“It has converted the NDA into an NPA.”

Mr. Singhvi said the GDP was down, exports had plummeted, no jobs were being created, and prices of petroleum products were going up even though the price of international crude was down and the green shoots of recovery were visible all over the world.

This had hit the middle class, the lower middle class and the poor. But BJP president Amit Shah was citing “technical reasons” for the slump.

Citing demonetisation as one of the key factors for the current economic disaster, the Congress spokesperson said, “If you take a wrong economic decision it is bound to adversely affect the economy. From the fastest growing economy we are now a stagnant economy.”
