The National Commission for Women (NCW) has written to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry asking it to ensure prevention of indecent portrayal of women in a reality show on a bride hunt for Rahul Mahajan beginning on Monday.

Talking to journalists here on Monday, NCW chairperson Girija Vyas said after seeing the advertisement on television, the Commission wrote to the Ministry.

She said the show, Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayega Swayamvar Season 2 , is yet to be telecast and the letter was written before that because the NCW wanted to ensure there was no inappropriate depiction of women on the show. She said the title swayamvar itself suggested commodification of women.

“Our vocabulary is rich. You can find many other words for the show. Swayamvar is word, which denotes commodification of women,” she said.

A change has already been made in the title, with Rahul clarifying in the advertisement that it is not swayamvar , but a ‘wedding.’
