Neeva Konwar, member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), has resigned from her post.

Chairperson Girija Vyas has forwarded her letter of resignation, received last week, to the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

While Ms. Konwar, who was serving her second term, is said to have resigned after her husband Devanand Konwar’s appointment as Bihar Governor, sources in the Commission said she was upset at the manner in which her reports were overlooked.

A case in point was the report she prepared after probing the complaint of sexual harassment levelled by a woman in Uttar Pradesh against her father-in-law. But the Commission did not take it up for consideration. When Ms. Konwar raised the matter, she was told that the report had gone missing from the chairperson’s office.

Ms. Konwar did not attend office last week. The Commission confirmed her resignation, but refused to give any details.
