The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will participate and 'vote for' the Devendra Fadnavis Government during the confidence motion in the Maharashtra Assembly on Wednesday.
Source in the party told The Hindu that the party will participate in the trust motion and vote in favour of the BJP. So far, the party wasn't coming out clean on whether they will abstain or participate in the trust motion scheduled around 1 p.m.
However, while speaking to the press, senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal remained non-committal on whether they will abstain or vote in favour during the trust motion. But Mr. Bhujbal said that their aim is to ensure that there is a stable Government in Maharashtra.
"In the past too, we have said that we will ensure that the State doesn't suffer and there is a stable Government and this remains to be our stand even today," he said.
With 41 members of the NCP voting in favour of the BJP, the Government will sail through comfortably during the confidence motion. The half way mark is 144. The BJP has 122 seats and with the support of the NCP and the lone MNS representative, the tally will go to 164, 20 more than the majority figure.
Dig at Shiv Sena
Meanwhile, taking a pot shot at the Shiv Sena, Mr. Bhujbal said that it was the Shiv Sena that was desperately trying to bargain with the BJP to get power.
"They sent their representatives in Delhi to bargain, even in Mumbai they did so. They are the ones who are seen bargaining ever since the poll results were declared," he added. Mr. Bhujbal was answering a query posed by the reporter if the support was a quid pro quo .
