Hailing the recommendations of the working group, the ruling National Conference on Wednesday asked the Centre to take steps for restoration of autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir saying it will help peace takes roots in the state.

“We welcome the recommendations of the working group headed by Justice (Retd) Sigheer Ahmad and appeal to the central government to take early steps for restoration of internal autonomy to J and K”, NC Vice President Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan said addressing workers in Kupwara as he launched the party’s membership drive in the district.

“Internal autonomy is tested practice and constitutionally correct, which will help peace take roots in Jammu and Kashmir,” Mr. Choudhary said.

The demand for restoration of autonomy is being voiced by the people of the state to strengthen article 370 of the constitution which guarantees special status to J and k in the Union of India, he said.

Asserting that the gun had no role to play in the resolution of Kashmir issue NC Lok Sabha member from Kupwara Shariefuddin Shariq appealed to leaders of all hues including those associated with the Hurriyat Conference to participate in the dialogue process political process in the state.
