Naxals stop trucks in Gadchiroli

The Gadchiroli district police said on Monday that around 50 naxalites stopped six trucks on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh highway on Sunday midnight by damaging the road.

Superintendent of Police S. Jayakumar told The Hindu over the phone that the naxals, however, did not attack the drivers.

Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the police have begun area domination exercise (spreading forces in large numbers in areas dominated by naxal activity).

‘Continual occurrence’

“Disruption or disturbance is a continual occurrence here. We have enough forces and are trying to minimise the efforts of the [Maoists],” Mr. Jayakumar said.
