The Navy has found seven officers guilty of negligence in the case of a fire onboard the Navy submarine INS Sindhuratna in February last year.
While six officers have been awarded “letter of severe displeasure” by the Chief of the Naval Staff R K Dhowan, the Commanding Officer has been recommended for court martial, Navy sources informed on Friday.
The sentences were decided after hearing the appeals in the INS Sindhuratna tragedy. Last November a Board of Inquiry (BOI) has found the seven navy personnel guilty and as per procedure show-cause notices were issued to all of them for their response.
INS Sindhuratna, commissioned in 1988, was undergoing inspection after a refit when a fire occurred resulting in loss of life of two officers and injuring seven others. Then Navy Chief, Admiral D K Joshi, resigned following the incident, taking “moral responsibility” for the spate of accidents involving naval assets.
