The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said that Gujarat Chief Minister and BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi represented aspirations of the poor in this country and not only that of the middle class.

Speaking to reporters here, the BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar said, “The declaration of Mr. Modi as BJPs prime ministerial candidate has come as a boost for us and shock for the Congress party. Projection of Mr. Modi as the prime ministerial candidate will be an advantage to us because of the way he has developed Gujarat. In Rewari rally, he asked Pakistan to introspect into its policies which shows he is a matured leader who can lead the country”.

“We lost 106 seats in 2009 by less than one lakh vote margin and we are winning them back this time. We hope to win 300 seats in 2014. Everyone in the party has supported Mr. Modi including Mr. Advaniji so there no issue. Mr. Advani, in a rally in Chhattisgarh, praised him as the PM candidate, so there is no confusion in the party over this” responded Mr. Javadekar to a query.

On the controversy related to former Army Chief V.K. Singh, Mr. Javadekar reiterated BJP’s stand and said V.K. Singh is being targeted by the Congress for sharing dais with Narendra Modi.
