December 17, 2014 12:23 am | Updated April 07, 2016 05:39 am IST - New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi told his party colleagues on Tuesday about the government plan to celebrate former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday on December 25 as Good Governance Day with several programmes and seminars.

Addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party in Parliament House, he said Mr. Vajpayee had ushered in good governance in the country. On the day, the party would initiate healthcare programmes as a service to society.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu spoke on the current impasse in the Rajya Sabha. Mr. Jaitley said the Opposition was trying its best to block some important Bills.

At the Parliamentary Party meeting last week, the Prime Minister “disapproved” of the controversial remarks made by Union Minister of State for Food Procession Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and advised MPs to be careful about their demeanour. After the meeting, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the Opposition did not want any discussion but only “destruction of the current session.”
