The Joint Working Group (JWG) of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation comprising of the three Naga underground outfits — the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah), the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) and the Naga National Council (NNC)/FGN — has opposed “any form of conditional package” offered to the Nagas by the Union government.
“We jointly reject any form of conditional package offered to the Nagas by the Government of India,” stated a joint declaration issued to media by V.S. Atem of NSCN(IM), Zhopra Vero of NNC/FGN and Wangtin Naga of NSCN(Khaplang) .
The unified stand of both the warring factions of NSCN and FGN came in the backdrop of media reports that the government of India was working out a peace package for the Naga insurgent groups to find a solution to the Naga political problem within the ambit of the Constitution. There has been, however, no clear official confirmation of New Delhi working any such package.
The joint declaration came close on the heels of signing of a “Declaration of Commitment” by the three Naga underground outfits at the meeting of the Joint Working Group for Naga Reconciliation held at Chiang Mai in Thailand on September 25.
