‘Muslims must take Modi’s remarks as a challenge’

September 21, 2014 02:02 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:47 pm IST - MUMBAI:

While not directly endorsing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks that Indian Muslims were loyal to their country and would not be hoodwinked by extremist forces, a senior Rashtriya Sangh Swayamsevak leader on Saturday said the minority must take this as “a challenge.”

“Muslims must accept this challenge [Mr. Modi’s comments]. They must prove it…The Congress never gave them such an opportunity like the way Mr. Modi has,” said RSS executive member Indresh Kumar while talking to The Hindu here.

In an interview to CNN, Mr. Modi had praised the minority for their commitment towards the nation and remarked, “ >Indian Muslims will live and die for India .”

Mr. Kumar said Indian Muslims must take lessons from Mr. Modi’s views on them. He, however, declined to answer when asked if the Sangh concurred with Mr. Modi’s observations.
