Opposing the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, 2010 passed by the Lok Sabha, an organisation working for the protection of Waqf properties on Sunday said that the Central government should address the concerns of Muslim organisations before presenting the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
“A resolution was passed in a meeting here today asking the Centre to give due consideration to the opinion of various Muslim organisations and Ulemas before presenting the Bill in the Rajya Sabha,” All India Waqf Protection Board (AIWFB) Chairman Shamayle Navi said.
The Lok Sabha unanimously passed the Bill on May 7, last year and it is currently before the select committee of the Rajya Sabha headed by Saifuddin Soz.
Muslim organisations are against some provisions of the Bill and All India Muslim Personal Law Board has already expressed its opposition to the Bill.
“If the Bill is passed in its present form then Muslim community will completely lose control over Waqf properties,” Mr. Navi said.
“We will meet leaders of various political parties including Sonia Gandhi to inform them about our concerns,” he added.
In the meeting it was also decided to oppose the proposed construction of a club after demolishing a dargah at Vinay Marg here, Mr. Navi announced.
