Murder accused MLA surrenders in court

January 09, 2013 12:20 am | Updated 12:20 am IST - CHANDIGARH:

Himachal Pradesh legislator Ram Kumar Chaudhary, who is prime accused in a case of murder of a woman, surrendered before the trial court at Panchkula on Tuesday after the Haryana police announced a reward of Rs. 2 lakh for anyone providing information leading to his arrest. The court, which earlier rejected his application for anticipatory bail, remanded him to six days in police custody. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had also rejected his application.

Mr. Chaudhary, who was recently elected as MLA on the Congress ticket from the Doon constituency in Solan district, figures among the four persons booked for the murder of 24-year-old Jyoti, whose body was recovered on November 22 from Sector 21 of Panchkula, which is Haryana’s satellite town for Chandigarh. The three other accused have been identified as Paramjeet, Dharampal and Gurmeet Singh — said to be related to the MLA, whose father was a four-time legislator as well. The post-mortem of Jyoti revealed that she died due to severe head injuries.
