Vindoo supplied two girls from Kazakhstan to bookie brothers: police

Top bookie Ashwini Aggrawal, alias Tinku Mandi, who is now in Delhi police custody in an IPL spot-fixing case, will be brought here on Friday on a transit remand.

“The Mumbai police will seek custody and remand of Mandi, during which he would be interrogated to establish the precise nature of his links with other bookies like Jiju Janardhan [arrested paceman S. Sreesanth’s close friend] and players,” a top police officer said here on Thursday.

Earlier, Aggrawal’s interrogation provided vital clues to the Goa police, resulting in the arrest of his six conduits in that State.

Meanwhile, the police viewed video footage from the swanky Oakwood and Novotel hotels at Juhu, where the absconding bookie brothers, Pawan and Sanjay Jaipur, and Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf had checked in before fleeing the country in a hurry.

According to Mumbai police sources, the arrested actor Vindoo Dara Singh had supplied two girls, ostensibly models, from Kazakhstan to the bookies during their stay there.

“We have established the identity of these two girls who were supplied to the bookies at both hotels by Vindoo, before he helped the Jaipur brothers flee the country,” said a top officer.

The actor has, however, denied using girls to obtain information on players, according to sources.

In another development, the Mumbai police are planning to take a call on Mr. Rauf, with an officer commenting that his links with the Jaipur brothers and Vindoo could prove vital in this case.

“While Mr. Rauf has defiantly agreed to an ICC probe, one is not so sure whether he would be able to stand up to a probe by the Mumbai police, given his overtly suspicious links with Pawan and Sanjay Jaipur,” said an officer, requesting anonymity.

The police plan to issue a Letter Rogatory against Mr. Rauf and the Jaipur brothers to seek the assistance of judicial authorities in other countries.
