The five-member Empowered Committee (EC), headed by former Chief Justice of India A.S. Anand, on Monday finalised the report on the safety of the Mullaperiyar dam.

The 250-page final report will be submitted to the Supreme Court on April 25. The committee after examining the reports it had received from various agencies constituted by it on the strengthening measures as well as on the safety and security of the dam, gave finishing touches to the final report which has eight chapters.

Highly placed sources told The Hindu that the final report took into consideration the terms of reference of the Supreme Court in its February 2010 order, fact-finding reports as well as the reports of analysis done by the Central Water and Power Research Station.

I
have a strong feeling that the empowered committee's report will be
similar in line with that of the one released by Krishna committee on
ifubrcation of Telengana from AP. It has never given a strong opinion
whether a separate Telengana is the need of the hour or not. It has
taken a very long time to finalize a useless report thereby looted the
treasury of the nation. Likewise, this Anand's committee will confuse
Supreme Court itself and prevent it to give a clear directive either to
the Center or State. On its part, the SC will take few more years to
study the report. By the time the SC gives its verdict, either a
natural solution or death will take place in the issue.
