Mulayam to get global jurists award

Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo and Member of Parliament Mulayam Singh will be honoured with the prestigious ‘International Jurists Award-2012.' The award will be given to Mr. Singh on May 28 in London by the Chief Justice of the United Kingdom, Lord Phillips.

In a statement, Justice Gavin Lightman, retired Judge of the High Court of England, said Mr. Singh had been selected for his unflinching contribution to the advancement of the Bar and the Bench. His support to the development of the legal fraternity was unparalleled in the world.

A biography of Mr. Singh ,written by Attorney Sarah Booth, would also be presented to the SP chief by Chief Justice Phillips. The award presentation ceremony is expected to be attended among others by the Prime Minister of Jordan, Chief Justices and judges from various countries, Members of Parliament, senior lawyers and social activists.

Akhilesh too invited

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Mr. Singh's son, Akhilesh Yadav, has also been invited to participate in the function, says the statement.
