National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday, signalling the seriousness of his organisation to find a lasting solution to the Nagaland issue.
Mr. Muivah, who came with four Naga leaders on February 27 from Amsterdam, met Dr. Singh at his residence, official sources said. Mr. Muivah and NSCN (I-M) chairman Isak Chishi Swu met Dr. Singh in 2006.
The NSCN (I-M) leader later met Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and the two held discussions to find a solution to the six-decade old issue.
“We had a comprehensive discussion and the NSCN (I-M) will continue to negotiate with the Government of India,” Mr. Muivah told journalists after the meeting. “If the Centre is serious, then we will talk.”
Later, at his monthly press conference, Mr. Chidambaram said it was his earnest desire that the talks would lead to an honourable negotiated settlement.
On February 12, the Centre appointed the former Petroleum Secretary, R.S. Pandey, as the new interlocutor for Naga peace talks.
