The alleged match-fixing controversy in the IPL figured in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday with members demanding a probe into the charges and the flow of black money into the game.
The matter was raised during Zero Hour by Samajwadi Party member Shailendra Kumar. He was supported by the former cricketer, Kirti Azad, of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
When there was a demand to bring back money stashed away in foreign banks, black money was being turned into white through IPL, Mr. Kumar alleged. Action was taken against some Pakistani cricketers for their involvement in match fixing, but there had so far been no action against any Indian cricketer.
He said match-fixing was reported way back in 1999 and the former South African cricket captain, Hansie Cronje, was allegedly involved. IPL was a commercial entity and there were reports of foreign exchange violations. The government should look into them.
Mr. Azad said he had written several letters to the Delhi police to probe the allegations, but no action had been taken.
