M.P. falls inline on GST

August 23, 2014 02:17 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:51 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Madhya Pradesh, which had earlier opposed the goods and services tax (GST) roll-out, has fallen in line. “Madhya Pradesh had been non-committal on the issue of GST earlier but has now said it will go along with the consensus amongst States,” Jammu & Kashmir Finance Minister Abdul R. Rather told The Hindu on Friday.

Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan had written to the Centre last month saying the draft for the Constitutional Amendment Bill to roll out the GST impinged on the States’ fiscal autonomy envisaged in the Constitution and the transition would cause substantial revenue losses to States.
